Bigger All Terrain Tires are Always Better

Are you looking to upgrade your off-road tires for your Jeep or truck? F.K. Inc Off-Road, New England’s Experienced Jeep Modification Shop can help.

Is there a big difference between 40” tires and 42” tires? Yes, there is.

We get a lot of questions at our Jeep and 4x4 modification shop about all-terrain tires. If you are interested in upgrading your Jeep or 4x4 vehicle, you found the right page. Not only are we New England’s top shop for off-road tires and Jeep modifications, but we love what we do and enjoy adventures around the United States in our heavily modified Jeep Wrangler.

Why We Made The Change

Ignorance is bliss, right? When you are driving around on 40” tires in your upgraded Wrangler, life is pretty good. That is, until Mickey Thompson announces that they are coming out with 42” tires. What we thought was perfect, now just seems small and ordinary. And those 42” tires are without a doubt, desperately needed.

Our 2012 Jeep Wrangler (with front and rear axle swap, 5.5-inch Synergy Springs, custom-tuned shocks, and more) had 40” Maxxis Razr MT Tires that tackled trails at Jericho Mountain State Park, AOAA, Windrock Park, Rausch Creek, and trails in Drummond Island. The Maxxis Razr MT tires handled well, but another driver in our group had Mickey Thompson Baja Boss MT tires and they seemed to excel on loose and muddy terrain with the Mickey Thompson tread pattern. Gordon knew that he would make the switch from Maxxis to Mickey Thompson at his earliest opportunity.

No, It wasn’t time to get new ones, but Gordon couldn’t stop thinking continually of having those extra two inches for his all terrain tires.

Gordon placed the order for the off-road tires and  was more excited than a kid on Christmas waiting for them to arrive. The new all-terrain tires were immediately installed at our premier off-road shop in Vermont. Then we loaded our Jeep on the trailer. We weren’t headed to the rocky trails for this trip though. Our modified Jeep was let loose on the beaches of Outer Banks in Corolla, North Carolina. Our new 42” Mickey Thompson tires handled extremely well on the sandy roads.

And we are excited to see how our new 42” all-terrain tires will handle more difficult terrain at our up coming off-road trips to Hot Springs Off-Road Park and AOAA.  You can trust that we’ll put our new 42” all-terrain tires on our modified Jeep to the test.

Should you upgrade your Jeep to larger off-road tires? Read on to find out.

Dominate the Off-Road with Mickey Thompson Baja Boss MT 42" Tires

When it comes to off-roading, we know that having the right tires can make all the difference. That's why we turned to Mickey Thompson's Baja Boss MT 42" tires for our Jeep Wrangler after having experiences with other brands. These tires are designed to handle the toughest terrain and provide superior performance, which is what we look for when we are off-roading. Read on and we'll explore the features of these tires and why they are a must-have for any off-road enthusiast.

Superior Traction

We know that one of the most important factors in off-roading is traction. The Baja Boss MT 42" tires are designed with a deep, aggressive tread pattern that provides maximum traction in mud, sand, and rocky terrain. This allows your off-road vehicle to power through any obstacle without getting stuck.

Durable Construction

Through experience, we have learned that off-roading can be tough on tires, which is why the Baja Boss MT 42" tires are built to last. They feature a 3-ply sidewall construction for added strength and puncture resistance. The tread is also reinforced with Mickey Thompson's PowerPly technology, which adds an extra layer of protection against cuts and bruises. We are so glad that we chose these tires for their durability. They are going to be able to handle the difficult terrain we take our modified Jeep on.

Self-Cleaning Design

Mud and debris can quickly build up in the tread of off-road tires, reducing their effectiveness…which is not what you want when you are exploring the Jeep Badge of Honor Trails or other trails across the country. The Baja Boss MT 42" tires are designed with stone ejector ribs that help to clear out any debris and keep the tread clean. This ensures that the tires maintain their traction and performance even in the muddiest conditions. We have seen this first hand. These tires excel on loose and muddy trails.

Aggressive Look

Not only do the Baja Boss MT 42" tires perform well, but they also look the part. The aggressive tread pattern and large size give your truck or Jeep a rugged and powerful appearance. This not only adds to the overall aesthetic of your vehicle but also lets others know that you mean business when it comes to off-roading. And if you have made it this far in this post, we know you mean business and are serious about your off-road vehicle.

Versatility

While these all-terrain tires are designed for off-roading, they also perform well on the highway. The tread pattern is designed to reduce road noise and provide a smooth ride on paved surfaces. And we know, no one likes a loud Jeep. This makes them a great option for those who use their Jeep for both daily driving and off-roading adventures. If you do rock 42” tires for your daily driver, hats off to you my friend. (And can we be friends? I think we should hang out.)

Conclusion

If you're serious about off-roading, then the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss MT 42" tires are a must-have for your modified truck, Jeep, or Bronco. With their superior traction, durable construction, and aggressive look, these tires will help you dominate any off-road terrain. And you want to be able to dominate, especially if you are off-roading in a group. Plus, their versatility and easy installation make them a practical choice for any off-road enthusiast.

2023 Jeep Wrangler

Last year, we had Jacob’s 2023 Jeep Wrangler in our shop. We installed a 3.5 inch Metalcloak lift and added 4.88 gears in the front and rear axles.

Jacob couldn’t wait to get it out on the trail to see what it could do. Adding new tires on it was also in his plans.

It came back to our shop last week and upgraded the springs. The Synergy springs added some height to this already lifted Jeep to make room for some more aggressive tires. Jacob went with mud-terrain tires instead of all-terrain.

We loved having this Jeep back in the shop for some more upgrades. Can’t wait to see what he wants to do next.

Thank you Jacob for your continued business. See you out on the trail!

2004 Jeep Wrangler X

August 14th, 2023

Bruce wanted to do a few upgrades on his 2004 Jeep Wrangler X for the 2023 Jeep Jamboree that was going to take place at Killington, Vermont on August 11th and 12th. The amount of time that Gordy had to complete this was quite short if Bruce wanted to make it on the trails in time.

Gordon installed a 2.5” Rough Country lift, with M1 shocks, Metalcloak adjustable control arms, a Powertrax/Lockright locker, and Rough Country Swaybar disconnects. Bruce also picked out 17” AEV Pintler Wheels for this navy blue Wrangler.

Bruce wasn’t going to purchase the bigger tires he had his eye on quite yet, but his wife, Meghan, insisted that it would look quite silly without larger tires.

Gordon got all the needed work done, but of course, the Jeep Jamboree was postponed until September and then canceled for the 2023 season. Bruce was disappointed about missing the fun on the mountain but was very happy with the results of his upgraded Wrangler.

2012 F.K. Inc. Jeep

It all begins with an idea.

In 2019, Gordon bought this 2012 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, but he couldn’t leave it with just a two-inch lift. Over the last four years, it has seen some major upgrades…and it most likely isn’t done.

Gordon installed the Rough Country 4-inch long arm lift shortly after purchasing and added 37-inch Falken M/T tires.

The trails Gordon wanted to try increased in difficulty, so more changes were made. Currently, the Jeep includes:

The Jeep looks great and has been able to tackle many difficult trails, including Trail #16 at Windrock. So, what will Gordon add to this Jeep next? Who knows…maybe he will just need to start a new project.
